About me
I was born in Rome and spent both my school years and university studies there, qualifying as a doctor.
I had always wanted to be a psychiatrist, so having completed medical internships in Rome, I moved to London in 1992 to begin my psychiatric training on the St George’s scheme which introduced me to the NHS and several specialities.
I developed an interest in Post-Rationalist Cognitive Therapy (PRCT) and made the decision to return to Italy to complete my higher training there so I could also be trained in this form of therapy which was not widely available in the UK.
Whilst in Italy I became part of a research group, studying the different patterns of brain activation in individuals observing pain in loved ones, using fMRI scanning. I subsequently also attended a master course on neuroscience, constructivism and phenomenology.
On return to the UK in 2007, I was initially appointed as a consultant in a generic CAMHS. As a post in the same role became available in the national deaf service within South West London and St George’s NHS Trust, I moved to the inpatient setting within deaf CAMHS. In this capacity I worked with children and young people at Springfield hospital where I continued to remain until 2022 when I retired from the NHS. Throughout this time I also built up a private practice providing treatment for hearing adults, children, young people and their parents.
In 2008 I participated in the Baby Lab at Birbeck University, in the team of Professor Mark Johnson, to learn more about current research with babies and toddlers.
My training puts me in a unique position of having experience in treating both children and young people as a psychiatrist. I am also a fully trained psychotherapist in both Post-Rationalist Cognitive Therapy (PRCT) and Family Therapy. I find this breadth of knowledge allows me to treat the whole person alongside the network of people who support them. It also gives me the ability to work with adults and women presenting with post-natal depression.
I am fluent in Italian and English and I am fully trained in British Sign Language (BSL).
I hold a Full Registration with the GMC. I am a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and I am registered with all major insurance companies.
